Would You Rather: Pub Edition

Setup

This game is gloriously simple and requires absolutely zero equipment beyond your wits, your mates, and of course, your chosen beverages. Find a comfy spot at the bar or a quiet table, make sure everyone has a drink in hand, and you're good to go!

How to Play

The premise is straightforward: players take turns posing a "Would You Rather" question to the group. These questions present two equally appealing or equally terrible options, forcing players to make a difficult choice and, more importantly, defend it!

  1. The Questioner: One player starts by asking a "Would You Rather" question to everyone else. For example: "Would you rather have a lifetime supply of your favourite craft beer, or be able to speak every language fluently?"
  2. The Deliberation: Each other player must then choose one of the two options and, crucially, explain WHY they made that choice. Encourage lively debate – the more ridiculous the justification, the better!
  3. The Verdict (and the Sip): After everyone has answered and defended their choice, the group (or the questioner, if there's no clear consensus) can decide if any player's answer or justification was particularly weak, indecisive, or just plain daft. If a player's defence doesn't hold up to scrutiny, they take a small sip of their drink.
  4. Rotate: The turn then passes to the next player, who poses a new "Would You Rather" question.

Rules of Engagement

  • No Sitting on the Fence: You MUST choose one option. "Neither" or "both" are not permitted.
  • Elaborate & Entertain: The fun comes from the explanations. Don't just pick an option; tell us why!
  • Keep it Clean-ish (or not!): Tailor the questions to your group's humour. From silly to philosophical, to downright bizarre – anything goes, as long as everyone's comfortable.
  • The Sip is a Consequence: Sips are for poor justifications, indecision, or simply being outvoted by the group on the strength of your argument. It's all in good fun!
  • No Repeats: Try to keep the questions fresh. If a question is too similar to a previous one, the questioner might have to take a sip themselves!

Variations for Extra Pints of Fun

  • Themed Rounds: Dedicate a round to specific themes, e.g., "Would You Rather: Beer Edition" (Would you rather only drink lagers for a year, or only drink stouts?), "Would You Rather: Pub Life Edition" (Would you rather always spill your drink, or always have to queue for ages?).
  • The Judge's Gavel: Designate one player as the "Judge" for a round. They pose the question, listen to the arguments, and decide who (if anyone) has to sip based on the quality of their defence.
  • Best Answer Bonus: For an extra layer, the questioner can award a "best answer" or "most convincing argument" point. Tally points, and the winner gets bragging rights (or perhaps doesn't have to buy the next round!).

Drink Responsibly, Mates!

Project Beer always champions responsible drinking. This game is about conversation and fun, not getting sloshed! Keep sips small, pace yourselves, and know your limits. If anyone feels they've had enough, water is always a great choice. Enjoy the banter, but always drink smart!
