The Hugo Spritz is a light, floral Alpine spritz of Prosecco, elderflower, fresh mint and lime with a splash of soda. Perfect for summer afternoons.
Ingredients
- 100ml Prosecco
- 20-25ml elderflower liqueur or cordial
- Soda water, to top
- A few fresh mint leaves
- Lime wedge
- Ice
Method
- Prepare: Clap the mint leaves between your hands to wake up the aroma and drop them into a large wine glass with a squeeze of lime.
- Add ice: Fill the glass with ice.
- Build: Pour in the elderflower, then the Prosecco.
- Top: Add a splash of soda and stir gently.
Tips for the Perfect Hugo Spritz
- Elderflower cordial makes a sweeter, lower-alcohol Hugo than liqueur.
- Don't muddle the mint hard or it will turn bitter.
- Use a large balloon glass with lots of ice, just like an Aperol Spritz.
A Bit of History
The Hugo was created in 2005 by a bartender in South Tyrol in northern Italy, and it has since spread across Europe as a lighter alternative to the Aperol Spritz.
