Honey Roasted Parsnips with Sesame
Bring honey roasted parsnips with sesame to the table for something different alongside a drink. The recipe balances flavour and texture using straightforward techniques and measured ingredients. Serves 4. Have everything ready before you start, follow the cooking and cooling times below, and pour a small glass of Amber Ale when the food is ready.
Ingredients
Serves 4
700 g parsnips
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
Heat oven to 210°C, 190°C fan. Peel parsnips, cut into even batons and remove woody cores.
Toss with oil, coriander and salt and spread in a roasting tin.
Roast for 25 minutes, turning once, then drizzle with honey and sprinkle with seeds.
Roast for 10–15 minutes more until tender and golden, checking honey does not burn. Serve hot.
Serving Suggestions
Serve alongside a grilled, roasted or vegetarian main, allowing the stated number of side portions. Bring to the table warm or chilled as directed in the method, rather than leaving it out for long periods.
Pairing Tips
Start with Amber Ale. Toasted malt complements browned edges and sweet vegetables, with enough bitterness to refresh the palate after richer bites. Serve a modest measure so the drink supports the food. An alcohol-free beer in a similar style is also an option; choose one with a comparable balance of sweetness and bitterness.
