Soy and Sesame Edamame
Bring soy and sesame edamame to the table for something different alongside a drink. The recipe balances flavour and texture using straightforward techniques and measured ingredients. Serves 4. Have everything ready before you start, follow the cooking and cooling times below, and pour a small glass of Rice Lager when the food is ready.
Ingredients
Serves 4
500 g frozen edamame in pods
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp sesame seeds
1/2 tsp chilli flakes
Instructions
Cook edamame in boiling water following packet, usually 4–5 minutes.
Drain thoroughly and allow steam to escape for 1 minute.
Toss warm pods with soy, sesame oil, seeds and chilli.
Serve warm with an empty bowl for pods. Squeeze out beans to eat and discard tough pods.
Serving Suggestions
Serve in small bowls or on a sharing board. Crisp snacks are best freshly made, while chilled snacks should stay refrigerated until just before serving. Follow the storage guidance in the method.
Pairing Tips
Start with Rice Lager. A light body and crisp finish offer a clean contrast to soy, sesame and aromatic seasoning. Serve a modest measure so the drink supports the food. An alcohol-free beer in a similar style is also an option; choose one with a comparable balance of sweetness and bitterness.
